Andrea Pietrabissa

Speaker bio: Andrea Pietrabissa was born in Pisa, Italy. Married with Alessandra, 4 children. He received his medical degree and surgical training at the University of Pisa. After a 2 years Research Fellowship at the University of Chicago, he became Senior Registrar in MIS at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, Scotland, under the chair of Sir Alfred Cuschieri. Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Pisa in 2000, he became Full Professor of Surgery at the University of Pavia in 2010, where he currently serves as Director of General Surgery and Head of the Department of Oncology. He is the current President of the European Association for Endoscopic Surgeons (EAES). His main research interest is in the field of technology for surgery. Author of 190 peer-review articles, he is an International Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and of the European Surgical Association. He is the 2021 recipient of the SAGES International Ambassador Award. The blueprint of his EAES Presidency are: addressing disparities in surgery, a new surgical outreach program (EAES Forward project) and circular economy in surgery.
